Well, if we're including the stone & bronze ages in this, then surely America should be included too. There were people back there then too

But I'm talking about wider history, interaction with other nations.

What are you refering to, exactly?

I mean that the native american history cannot reasonably be incorporated into US history, as they have entirely different roots and their nation was, at the time we are now discussing, entirely secular. It would be more accurate to associate US pre-history with ours and that of the other colonising european nations, as that is where their ancestory and cultural roots lie.

Well, if we're not going to include migrations & conquests in this, then we may as well seperate pre-Roman Britain & post-Roman Britain & declare them as completely unrelated to each other

Migrations and conquests are one thing, colonisation and near total displacement of the native population another. A reasonable proportion of our ancestry and our culture stems from our pre-roman roots, as well as from roman, saxon, tudor, victorian and every other age in our history. That is what the development of a culture is.

However, in the case of the Americans, they didn't evolve from the native americans culturally and have not incorporated it into their own like often happened with ancient conquest to appease the newly-conquered, so they cannot claim native-american history as their own. The culture is seperate.

I don't see much of a point in debating history, whether it be the hostory of the US, or the history of Britain.

And no, Dell, I don't want a long-winded speech about how smart you are OR how relevant history is to the present and determining the outcome of certain events based on what did happen hundreds of years ago.

Real-world topics are, make no mistake, welcomed in an environment where all else is usually gibberish. It just stands to reason that you would choose a more recent topic.

History is a drag, and I only said that I didn't see the point in talking about it.

History isn't a Drag. History is important that way you learn from your mistakes. HISTORY helps us learn more about ourselves and gives us the chance to make ourselves a better person.
